Description

This handbook was designed to provide a guide to persons assigned the task of performing various tests on electric and hydraulic passenger and freight elevators in the presence of a Certified Elevator Inspector. The duty of the Inspector is to observe the testing, report the results of the testing and verify the results meet the acceptable limits specified in the respective Code. It is essential that the person performing the tests understand what is being tested, why it is being tested and a safe means to accurately demonstrate the function. The text of this document is proven to assist in this effort.

The material included in this handbook relates to requirements stated in the ASME A17.1-2007/CSA B44-07, ASME A17.1a-2008/CSA B44-08 and ASME A17.1-2016/CSA B44-13 Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators. Methods described are taken from ASME A17.2- 2014 Guide for Inspection of Elevators, Escalators, and Moving Walks.
