"The Speaking of Issues compilation provides a sense of how the industry's first trade magazine was founded and evolved. The monthly editorials concerned the birth and growth of associations, expositions, innovative components, systems and installations, worldwide, literally providing a running history of the international elevator industry - and its players." . . . William C. Sturgeon

Joining the elevator industry in 1945 after five years in the U.S. Army, Bill Sturgeon became a helper, mechanics and elevator contractor, prior to founding ELEVATOR WORLD in January 1953. He also was a founder of several other associations, including the National Association of Elevator Contractors of which he was a president in 1953-1954. In recognition of his service to the industry, he received the industry's Man of the Year Award in 1962 and the Distinguished Service Award in 1994.

Reportage by Editor Sturgeon in China, Japan, Southeast Asia, Latin America, all of North America and Europe gradually shaped ELEVATOR WORLD into a medium, serving and being read by the international elevator industry.

"Those now entering the industry, or having been in it a few years, would benefit from reading this compilation, for it provides a panorama of activities within our field. We are losing a feel for the past, as few retiring veterans have written of the passing parade. There is no better place to receive a grand overview than in this book. The editor has written what many a veteran would wish to pass on." . . . George R. Strakosch, Noted Elevator Consultant and Author
