Description

SPECIAL NOTICE: Please check each course for verification of approval before purchasing.

This test is based on the article, Elevator Door Force, published in the November 2015 issue and counts as two contact hour (0.2 CEU) of elevator industry continuing education credit. Most courses are approved by NAEC for CET/CAT and NAESAI for QEI and in the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin.

Learning Objectives - After reading this article, you should have learned about:

  • Maintenance on doors and their closing forces is required by code
  • Maintenance must include replacement of damaged components and proper adjustment, and be performed at adequate frequency
  • Door operators are designed with a means by which to adjust both closing force and closing speed
  • Heavy hoistway doors(typically, cladded doors in lobbies) need a second speed control, which is provided by all modern door operators. Where a second speed control is not provided for a heavy lobby door, the speed of the heavy door must be adjusted to meet its kinetic energy requirements; consequently, all the other doors will operate at that slower speed
