Description

This part of Book 2 is about elevator brakes, which is as important as the drives and hoisting ropes from a safety point of view. Without a good brake that can stop the operation on time and safely, accidents will occur resulting in passenger injury. This part consists of three chapters that are beyond normal operation and control. Some new development in brake actuation has been seen during the past decade, and these three articles address that. Although "brakes" are an important component in an elevator system, the limitation on the number of chapters in one volume prevents us from the inclusion of more articles in certain parts. Again, besides the main content, which is the original article published in an edition of Elevator World, each chapter comes with a tutorial where certain points within the article are further elaborated on or clarified to help readers understand the content more thoroughly. The derivation of equations is included in the tutorials, which is mainly for the interest of those who love mathematics. Readers often don't need to fully understand the derivation to understand the content of the articles and attempt the assessment questions. Then, there are learning reinforcement questions for each chapter. No model answer is offered to the learning reinforcement questions, but readers are welcome to write to us for further discussion.

At the end of each section, there are assessment examination questions that readers who want to get the appropriate CEUs must attempt and submit to Elevator World. Readers must pick one out of five choices as the answer of each assessment examination question. Though there may be more than one correct choice of each question, readers must select the best answer out of five.

This test covers the following chapters from Section 2.3 - Elevator Brakes:

Chapter 1 - The Application of Electromechanical Spring-Set Brakes in MRL Machines

Chapter 2 - Development of Brake Control System for Elevators

Chapter 3- Over-excitation Pays Off

This test is worth 2 Contact Hours (0.2 CEUs). There are 15 questions on this test and you will have 60 minutes to complete. This exam may only be taken online. 80% is a passing grade. You will know immediately if you have passed or failed. If you pass, you will be able to immediately print your certificate.
